‘Silent Hills’ will scare you (again) in new concept trailer

How many times have you played through Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s terrifying Silent Hills demo? Was one run-through enough to satiate your fears? Well, here’s something new to look at. The directing duo behind the latest installment in the Silent Hill video game franchise debuted a concept trailer at this month’s Tokyo Game Show. It will feel familiar to those who have played through the Playable Teaser on PS4; the game’s protagonist, personified by The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus, is trapped in a haunted house with creaky doors and creepy crawlers. The trailer, however, adds a boy’s severed head, sentient toys, and a giant monster to the mix. See above.

“The concepts we’re discussing, the ideas that we’re discussing and the tools that are in play to create Silent Hills are going to render an incredibly intense and an incredibly scary game,” said del Toro at TGS.

Silent Hills has an anticipated 2015 release.

Yahoo teases ‘Community’ season 6 in packed (retrospective) trailer

Warning: the following trailer does not contain new footage. Production on the holy sixth season of Dan Harmon’s Community begins later this fall. The trailer does pack juicy morsels of goodness from every season NBC aired up to this point, though. There’s funny stuff throughout, but the best gag has to be when the trailer pretty much disregards the existence of the Harmon-less season 4. Enjoy, and get ready for Community “better than it was before. Better. Stronger. Faster.”

Comic Con: Extended look at ‘Person of Interest’ season 4

At the end of Person of Interest‘s third season, our heroes Reese, Finch, Shaw, and Root were forced into hiding after the sinister John Greer of Decima Technologies turned on a second powerful and all-knowing artificial intelligence-enabled machine known as Samaritan. At Comic Con executive producers Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman, along with cast members Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker, screened an extended clip (embedded after the break) featuring mostly new footage from the upcoming season that sheds a good amount of light on what’s coming next. Samaritan is hunting down the remaining members of Team Machine…The Machine continues to spit out numbers and while Reese is eager to continue their work, Finch knows their resources are severely limited…The Machine has helped Reese go undercover in law enforcement while ladies Shaw and Root now work at a posh department store (the panel’s crowd erupted in laughter at the sight of Shaw working her new job)…also, quick glimpses of Elias and Control hint at their return.

When asked what the theme of the new season will be Plageman answered “war.” It’s a battle between two AIs and our heroes are stuck in the middle with limited resources and no sanctuary (The Library was destroyed, remember?). It is key to note that Detective Fusco is not being flagged by Samaritan, and Plageman says this will allow for fun creative liberties. Also, Nolan briefly hinted that the two AIs might be upgraded with a voice some time in the future, but at the same time Plageman assured fans that they “always want to keep the technology grounded.”

Person of Interest returns Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 10PM on CBS. Continue reading Comic Con: Extended look at ‘Person of Interest’ season 4

Comic Con: ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 trailer will blow you (and your brains) away

The Walking Dead knows how to cut trailer. Once again they’ve managed to top themselves with a brilliant season 5 trailer that only teeters on major reveals and still gets the job done. This pretty much confirms Rick and the gang will get out of Train Car A and face the Termites of Terminus. Gareth, their leader, appears to be a reasonable man here as he allows Rick and co. to leave his horror house and find a cure for the zombie apocalypse in Washington, D.C. That’s right–road trip! “When we get to Washington, we will make the dead die and the living will have this world again,” snarls Abraham Ford. And who took Beth? A tiny tease at the end reveals her imprisonment at some sort of psych ward (?); wherever she is she appears to be more badass than ever and ready for escape.

What looks to be the most ambitious season of The Walking Dead yet premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9PM on AMC. Skip after the break to view new key art made specifically for Comic Con. Continue reading Comic Con: ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 trailer will blow you (and your brains) away

Comic Con: ‘Once Upon a Time’ readies fans for ‘Frozen’ arc

Don’t hold your breath, Oncers. Though ABC is touting this as the official “Season 4 Trailer” it serves simply as a series recap and does not contain new footage. Bummer, I know. But here it is nevertheless, and it will get you amped for what’s to come in Storybrooke this fall.

Major takeaways from this year’s Once Upon a Time panel at Comic Con: Giancarlo Esposito, fresh off his three year stint on NBC’s now-cancelled Revolution, will return as Regina’s Mirror. Actor Michael Socha, who played the Knave in the short-lived spinoff Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, will make his way to Storybrooke. Colin O’Donoghue’s Hook will begin to sport modern attire in the new season. A musical episode is not in the cards (for now). And in terms of the hyped Frozen storyline, showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz presented a brief clip (not available online) of Anna and Elsa (played by Georgina Haig and Elizabeth Lail, respectively) leaving flowers at their parents’ grave. Frozen characters joining the show include the aforementioned queen and princess, Kristoff (Scott Michael Foster), Hans (Tyler Jacob Moore), and Grand Pabbie the Troll King (voiced by John Rhys-Davies).

‘Homeland’ showrunner teases season 4 (first trailer inside!)

I can guarantee that Dana Brody will not be back for Season 4.”

Let’s start with that choice quote from Homeland executive producer Alex Gansa at the TCAs on Friday. Moving on…

With the demise of the show’s male lead Damian Lewis (who so elegantly played Nicholas Brody), Homeland‘s fourth season serves somewhat as a series reboot. This time around the action takes place in the Middle East and it follows Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison in the field dealing with political ramifications that comes with US troops withdrawing from the area.

“It’s about seeing Carrie Mathison for the first time doing the job she was trained to do — being a case officer in a foreign capital,” Gansa shared in an interview with EW. “We’re going to see what an intelligence officer does on the ground. How she recruits assets, how she deals with the foreign government and her country team — the people she works with in the embassy — and the host country’s intelligence services. That is a complicated and murky world, one that we hope is filled with intrigue and drama and adventure.”

What else? “About six months” have passed since season 3 ended; Carrie’s had her baby but it’s left back in the States so, no, you won’t be seeing her balancing motherhood and taking down terrorists. In terms of her mental stability, “she’s quite stable,” says Gansa. “Where she is managing her grief about her loss of Brody is a different question.” Speaking of Brody, Gansa says it isn’t outside the realm of possibility for Lewis to reprise his role via flashbacks. “He was such as significant part of Carrie’s life that just to drop him completely would feel wrong, because Carrie is grieving for his loss.”

Gansa also commented on the status of fan favorites Saul Berenson and Peter Quinn. “Saul plays a central role this season, albeit a different role, a reversed role. Saul in the past was Carrie’s boss. Now that he’s in the private sector he finds himself working underneath her and at her behest, so there’s a role reversal that takes place there.” And then: “Everybody is clamoring for a relationship between [Quinn and Carrie]. And it is certainly something we’re toying with. However the question is whether Carrie is in any kind of emotional state to be open to a romance of any kind and does Quinn realize that’s the case. But it’s enough to say he watches over her this season because he cares about her so much.”

For more on season 4, check out the interview with Gansa in full at EW.

Now, jump after the break to glimpse what’s in store. It’s true: There’s no place like Homeland. Which returns October 5 on Showtime. And how incredible is that season 4 key art hanging above? Best one yet. Continue reading ‘Homeland’ showrunner teases season 4 (first trailer inside!)

Bateman, Day & Sudeikis return in ‘Horrible Bosses 2’

Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis reunite in Horrible Bosses 2, the sequel to the breakout 2011 comedy. Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx return and new additions include Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz. The logline goes like this:

Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick (Bateman), Dale (Day) and Kurt (Sudeikis) decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in “Horrible Bosses 2.” But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.

This is merely a teaser trailer but it hits all the right notes. Sean Anders (That’s My BoySex Drive) directs and co-wrote the script with John Morris (We’re The MillersShe’s Out of My League). Out November 26.

Lloyd & Harry return in full form in new ‘Dumber and Dumber To’ trailer

On Monday night during their guest stint on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels debuted the first official trailer for their upcoming highly anticipated sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. 20 years later Carrey’s Lloyd and Daniels’ Harry still shine here in the first footage from the Farrelly brothers latest comedy. The trailer actually is really, really funny and I’d be surprised if your level of excitement for this long-gestating film doesn’t jump sky high within the first minute of the clip.

The Mutt Cutts van rides again November 14. Watch the trailer after the break. Continue reading Lloyd & Harry return in full form in new ‘Dumber and Dumber To’ trailer

Movie trailer round-up: ‘Interstellar,’ ‘Cinderella,’ ‘They Came Together’ & ‘Apes’ [Update: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’]

Chris Nolan’s next movie has been shrouded in secrecy for some time now. Even the original two-minute teaser trailer didn’t budge with details. The first official full-length trailer that debuted in front of Godzilla, however, manages to paint a better picture. In Interstellar, the Earth has “ran out of food” and Matthew McConaughey is enlisted to travel through a wormhole on an interstellar voyage to save the planet. The plot still isn’t crystal clear but one thing’s for certain: Nolan has yet another super intriguing design in the works. Interstellar opens November 7.

Joss Whedon releases latest project ‘In Your Eyes’ to the ‘Net for $5

Joss Whedon is a master of the art of juggling. During the shooting of The Avengers he somehow managed to brilliantly cobble together his adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. And now, during the early shooting days of Avengers sequel Age of Ultron he’s putting out another micro-budget movie under his Bellwether Pictures banner.

Whedon wrote supernatural love story In Your Eyes starring Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl-David, but this time he handed the reigns to director Brin Hill. After the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this month, a special video announcement starring Joss from the set of Avengers 2 revealed that the movie would be made available to the masses immediately on the Internet. For 5 bucks you can rent In Your Eyes on Vimeo today. It’s a groundbreaking movie from a massive Hollywood director; typically it takes time for these smaller budgeted movies to get picked up and dropped into theatres after premiering at festivals. But Joss, creator and disseminator of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, knows better.
