Trailer: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

The Internet is ablaze with excitement over the debut trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.  Comic book fans especially are drooling over this graphic novel adaptation for film.  Scott Pilgrim is a comic book series authored and illustrated by Bryan Lee O’Malley and published by Oni Press.  The first volume was released in 2004 and the fifth and final volume, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, will release later this year alongside the movie.  The series follows “23-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, and part-time bassist who is living in Toronto and plays bass guitar in the band “Sex Bob-Omb.”  He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven “evil exes” in order to date her.”  And that is exactly what the movie is about.  The trailer begins with the question: “Have you ever met someone you love so much it hurts?”  Then it introduces Scott Pilgram (Michael Cera), his crush Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and the seven evil exes who include a telepath (Brandon Routh), a skateboarder with a powerful punch (Chris Evans), and Flower’s former college roommate (Mae Whitman).  There’s plenty of comic book combat for everyone.

Directed by Edgar Wright (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits theatres August 13.

Trailer #1: Tron: Legacy (NERDGASM!)

I was one of the first to catch a glipse of Tron: Legacy at last year’s Disney panel at Comic Con.  Since then we’ve been given the first teaser trailer and poster.  And now there’s this: a brand new trailer that leaked out late last night with never-before-seen footage.  Want to download it in HD for keeps?  Click here.  The dialogue, the score (by Daft Punk, FYI), and the amazing visual effects make for a really awesome trailer that people can’t stop talking about, especially in the Twittersphere.  To quote a friend of mine, this may prove to be the best Disney film ever made.  GAHH!  (Did you catch the stunning Olivia Wilde at 1:31?  Good.)

Trailer: The Karate Kid

Here’s the trailer for the remake of the original Karate Kid (1984).  It stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan as his martial arts trainer.  Harald Zwart is directing, Jaden’s dad Will Smith is producing with wife Jada Pinkett, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, and Jerry Weintraub (he launched the original franchise).

According to Variety, “While the new film will be set in that exotic locale, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.”  The Karate Kid opens in theaters June 11.  The trailer looks fun, but will it live up to the original or Parts II, III, and The Next Karate Kid?

How To Make It In America premieres tonight on HBO

How To Make It In America, the new series from writer Ian Edelman and executive producers Mark Wahlberg (Entourage), Rob Weiss (Entourage), and Stephen Levinson (Entourage) — premieres tonight (2/14) at 10PM on HBO.  It’s a story that “follows two enterprising Brooklyn twentysomethings as they hustle their way through New York City, determined to achieve the American Dream.”  Since a handful of the staff comes from Entourage you can expect the show to have a similar vibe but with stark differences; it’s set in New York City, the main set of characters start at the bottom and work their way up to success and fame, and instead of dealing with the entertainment industry, this seres is grounded in the fashion scene.  To learn more about the show, check out my previous two posts.

Look after the break for a ton of HTMINA content, including a new trailer, a conversation with stars Bryan Greenberg and Scott “Kid” Mescudi, and a behind-the-scenes ‘making-0f’ video.  HBO collaborated with with Kid Cudi, DJ Green Lantern, and Broke Mogul to create a HTMINA official mixtape.  It includes tracks from Dan Black, Chromeo, Lupe Fiasco, Styles P, and Phoenix.  Click here to listen to and download the (free) mixtape, and look after the break for the track listing.

UPDATE:  If you missed the premiere episode you can watch it in its entirety at YouTube.  WATCH IT HERE.

Asimo stars in “Living with Robots” documentary

Our favorite robot Asimo stars in a Honda short-film documentary called “Living with Robots.”  The docu “investigates humankind’s keen interest in robots and how robots can challenge the impossible by saving lives while also holding the promise to become more integrated and helpful in daily life.”  In case you never heard of Honda’s ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility), he’s “the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, and the company’s commitment to researching and developing bipedal mobility and how the research improves technologies across the company.”  You can take a peek at the trailer for it above.  If it pings your interest, the full length film was shown at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will hopefully find its way to DVD and Blu Ray soon.  Full PR after the break.

Isn’t that final sequence chilling, when Asimo looks at himself in the mirror?  He very naturally tilts his head inquisitively, as if he were human.  Help me realize our future: will robots take over the world (ie. iRobot) or will they develop to help maintain and better our lives?
