Trailer: Green Lantern

Today Warner Bros. released the first full length trailer for Green Lantern, a Martin Campbell directed sci-fi extravaganza based on the DC Comic of the same name.  Ryan Reynolds is Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern, a test pilot who is granted a green ring that gives him awesome superpowers.  In addition to this fast action trailer, which includes just the right amount of aliens and superhero spankage, the studio released this synopsis:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Green Lantern releases wide June 17, 2011.  Download the trailer in HD, courtesy of Apple.  And oh yeah, today Reynolds was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive.  Do what you will with that bit of information.

Eli Roth wants to make more horror movies

Director/producer/actor Eli Roth wants to return to his torture porn roots (Hostel, Hostel Part II).  Though Roth had previously told Deadline.com’s Nikke Finke that he was ready to move from such gruesome tales, today he flipped-flopped and exclusively reported to Deadline that “old habits die hard.”

Clown is an upcoming horror flick Roth will likely serve as a producer on.  Partners Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford are set to direct and pen the script, respectively.  Watts and Ford created a “mock trailer” for the movie which found its way onto YouTube and captured over 100,000 hits in a month and more importantly Roth’s attention.  The concept is simple yet killer.  When his son’s sixth birthday is looking gloom since the clown-for-hire doesn’t show up, a father puts on a clown suit that transforms him into a homicidal killer.  The mock trailer is embedded above and it’s super creepy and I’m pretty stoked about it.  Roth talked Cross Creek Pictures and Vertebra Films into financing a feature transfer.

Says Roth on Clown: “It’s new territory to make this a version of The Fly, where this guy can feel himself changing, blacking out only to find blood all over his clown suit. You’re sympathetic toward a monster until the monster actually takes over.”  He continued to tell Deadline, “With horror, you have to live in the danger zone. People are hungry for the next Freddy Krueger, Michael Meyers or Jason Voorhees, and while that has to be earned, we think this cursed clown suit can do it. I am giving us permission to go as hard at this as possible. I know I said I was moving away from horror, but old habits die hard. You think you’re over certain kinds of music and then you hear a Dead Kennedys song and say, ‘Why did I stop listening, I love the Dead Kennedys.'”

Roth also has Aftershock, a thriller based on the aftermath of the February 27, 2010 Chilean earthquake, and a sci-fi flick Endangered Species waiting in the wings for theatrical releases.  No word on when Clown will hit theatres, but I look forward to the real trailer to arrive.

Trailer #3: ‘Tron: Legacy’

This just isn’t healthy anymore.  One more full length Tron trailer and my brain might explode.  No joke.  Well, what are you waiting for?  Sit back, relax, and enjoy 2 minutes and 32 seconds of pure bliss.  This latest trailer features more never-before-seen footage, including a lengthier look at the villainous Clu, the CGI’d younger version of Jeff Bridges.

Model Brooklyn Decker shines in the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy ‘Just Go With It’

Super gorgeous model Brooklyn Decker–who showed off her bodacious curves on the cover of this year’s Sports Illustration swimsuit edition–stars alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in the upcoming Happy Madison production Just Go With It. The movie actually looks pretty funny, but that’s not why I’ll be going to the theatre to see it.  Time code 0:33 is precisely why.  It opens February 11, 2011.

Trailer: ‘Winnie the Pooh’

That’s right, people.  Winnie the Pooh and company are making their way back to the silver screen for the first time in over 35 years.  Disney brought back original animator Burny Mattinson (who will serve as senior story artist) to capture the classic essence that made everything so perfect about the original incarnation of Pooh and all the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood.  The film is co-directed by Stephen Anderson (Meet the Robinsons) and Don Hall (The Princess and the Frog).  Craig Ferguson, Tom Kenny, and Bud Luckey lend their voices to the 2D animated film.  Zooey Deschanel is set to sing the new version of the “Winnie the Pooh” theme song.  You want a synopsis?  You got it:

Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh,” the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail.

Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, the film reunites audiences with the [honey]-loving, philosophical bear and friends Eeyore, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet and Owl in a wild quest to save [their friend] Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny.

If the first trailer sitting above does not make you immediately tingle all over and feel so warm and fuzzy inside, there’s something clearly wrong with you.  Because Disney made the right decision of holding onto the original 2D animation (instead of opting for today’s 3D in-your-face pseudo-standard), this movie will undoubtedly hit all the right notes and shoot a wave of nostalgia goodness across our minds.  I highly anticipate the return of Pooh-bear; do you?

Winnie the Pooh hits theatres July 15, 2011.  Check out some beautifully crafted stills in the gallery below.

Trailer #2: Suckerpunch

Ch-check out this brand new trailer for Zack Snyder’s action-fantasy flick Suckerpunch.  It contains never-before-seen footage and somehow manages to induce an even higher level of excitement than the original trailer!  The super sexy all female ensemble cast is spotlighted (it includes Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Carla Gugino), as are the over-the-top, in your face CGI landscape and ferocious creatures.  A new synopsis was released:

Sucker Punch is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, but her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary…with potentially tragic consequences.

With Watchmen and 300 under his belt, I have faith Snyder will deliver another extraordinary epic that balances special effects with compelling storytelling.  I know where I’ll be March 25, 2011.

Trailer: Kid Cudi – MOTM2: The Legend of Mr. Rager

Cudder is continuing the cinematic theme with the release of his sophomore album.  Just like he did with the first Man on the Moon album, Kid Cudi has put together a short trailer to promote his music (that is organized by scene, mind you).  There really isn’t much to it, unfortunately.  There’s some shreaking and nicely cut shots, and now we know where those posters originate from.  Look after the break for 3 “deluxe” trailers; they are 30 second spots from the DVD documentary “Journey of Mr. Rager”  Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager drops November 9.  Preorder now.

Trailer: Scream 4

He’s baaaack.  Ten years has passed since the last Scream movie from Wes Craven, and Ghostface is ready for some vengence on the Woodsboro gang.  Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette return as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Sheriff Dewey Riley, respectively, and they are joined by Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Nico Tortorella, Rory Culkin, Alison Brie, and Adam Brody in this reboot of the late ’90s horrorfest.  The trailer is chillingly fun, so go on and mash play.

Scream 4 hits theatres April 15, 2011.

Robert Knepper to revive ‘Prison Break’ baddie T-Bag in upcoming A&E series ‘Breakout Kings’?!

Well that’s the plan, according to Breakout Kings producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora.  The former Prison Break producers want veteran actor Robert Knepper to play Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell in the their upcoming fugitive-themed drama.  According to various sources, EW’s Michael Ausiello reports that 20th Century Fox, the studio behind Break and Kings has “signed off on the [character] crossover.”  All there’s left to do is get Knepper on board to play the part again.  If my memory serves me right (of course it does!), T-Bag was voted by the Brothers Scofield and Co. in the Prison Break series finale and to be forced to go back to jail.  He’s scum, and that’s where he belonged.

Though both shows revolve around the life of fugitives, Breakout Kings has a slightly altered plotline.  It’s being described as “a new action-packed ensemble drama following an unconventional partnership between the U.S. Marshals’ office and a group of convicts as they work to catch fugitives on the run.”  I really hope Knepper bites the bait (former Prison Break producers are at the helm) and signs on to revive T-Bag for the new series.  T-Bag is a dark, flawed character with quick wits and a totally creepy attitude.  He’s definitely one of the best written villains in recent TV history, so to watch his character make a comeback would be beyond awesome.  Originially produced for FOX, the A&E series will premiere in 2011; 13 one hour episodes have been ordered.  Look after the break for the first teaser trailer.

Trailer #2: The Walking Dead

Sure this 30 second spot may not reach the epicness that was the original (nearly) 5 minute sneak peek into AMC’s upcoming horror series The Walking Dead.  But it does include new footage and enough zombies to whet your appetite.  Mash play and shower in the anticipation of the series premiere.  The zombie apocalypse begins October 31 at 10PM on AMC.

Live action Pokémon movie trailer induces double rainbow phenomena

Pokémon Apokélypse is a fan-fiction trailer “responding to the common trend of ‘dark and gritty’ reboots of popular franchises.”  But when it first “leaked” on the Internet fans of the popular trading card game (that also enjoyed a short stint on TheWB), rabid fans were led on to believe that this was actual footage from an upcoming live action Pokémon movie.  It turns out the leak was staged and the production team behind it revealed that this was simply a side project.  From the live incarnations of Ash, Misty, and Brock to the super cool CG Pokémon, the trailer is pure win.  Read the synopsis and mash play!

Celadon City hasn’t been the same since the Gyms closed down. Pokémon fighting has gone underground, and the sport has gotten a taste for blood. Ash, Misty, and Brock have been forced deep into the city’s seedy underbelly to keep training, but the Pokémon aren’t the only ones in danger. Now, Ash must choose to either become a master in the grim world of illegal pokémon fighting, or make a desperate stand to free them all from the criminal grip of Rocket Industries.
