Movie trailer round-up: ‘Wreck-It Ralph’, ‘Flight’ & Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes what looks to be the next best video game movie in recent memory following Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Wreck-It Ralph brings together the voices of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, and Sarah Silverman to tell a story about a video game villain who wants to turn good. Here’s a nice brief synopsis for you:

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?

The animated, ingenious tale is directed by Rich Moore who previously worked on cartoons The Simpsons and Futurama. Watch the teaser trailer above and I guarantee you’ll be hooked. If that support group scene featuring classic video game baddies such as Doctor Robotnik and Bowser from the Sonic and Mario franchises, respectively, doesn’t brighten your day…

Wreck-It Ralph is out November 2.

Trailer: ‘The Bourne Legacy’

The action-packed followup to the February teaser has arrived. Here is the first full-length theatrical trailer for the next movie in the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy. New star Jeremy Renner is trained assassin Kenneth Kitson, “Treadstone, without the inconsistency.” Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac also star alongside franchise vets Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn.

The Bourne Legacy is out August 3.

Movie trailer round-up: ‘Gangster Squad’, ‘The Watch’ & ‘Total Recall’ [Update: ‘The Campaign’]

The director behind Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less is back with a star-studded gangster pic. Ruben Fleischer has rounded up Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Michael Peña, and Sean Penn to helm Gangster Squad. And here’s what it’s about:

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

Yeah, from the looks of this trailer Gangster Squad is going to be one entertaining movie that cannot be missed. Unfortunately we have to wait for October 19 to roll around before we can see it. Perhaps these next two summer movies will hold you over until then… jump after the break! Trailer #3: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

Here’s a new trailer for Marc Webb’s Spidey reboot The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. In perhaps the most successful trailer yet, you will get a closer look at the film’s villain The Lizard and you’ll tap into Peter Parker’s funny bone. It features a song from The Glitch Mob, so that doesn’t hurt.

The Amazing Spider-Man hits theatres July 3.

Trailer #3: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

If the epic conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise isn’t the most anticipated movie on your list (after The Avengers, of course), then you have brain damage and I urge you to visit a physician.

Here is the third and final theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Though it mostly moves slowly through the beginning and middle, it manages to pack in tons of never-before-scene footage including multiple full body shots of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, even more of Tom Hardy’s villainous Bane (you can actually understand him here!), and glimpses of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard’s characters. And how bad-ass is that flying Tumbler? I mean COME ON!

Christian Bale returns as the Caped Crusader once more this July 20. You can catch this trailer on the big screen starting this Friday when it plays in front of Marvel’s The Avengers.

PlayStation gamers to get their ‘Smash Bros.’ fix with ‘PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale’

There are Nintendo fanboys and there are PlayStation fanboys. (And girls, of course.) Each side in the video game universe has its pros and cons, but there’s one major advantage Team Ninty has been able to hold onto for quite some time: the Super Smash Bros. series. Since 1999, Nintendo gamers have been able to take control of their favorite characters and duke it out in the middle of classic scenes from various console games. Mario versus Star Fox, Jiggly Puff versus Kid Icarus; Super Smash Bros. made this possible. Now it’s Sony’s turn to let their gamers get in on all the combative fun.

The makers of PlayStation and a developer named SuperBot Entertainment have taken a page out of Nintendo’s playbook to create a Smash Bros. competitor. PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale will bring together popular characters from PS games including Kratos (God of War), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), Sly Cooper, Mael Radec (Killzone 2), Fat Princess, and PaRappa the Rapper and pit them against each other on battlegrounds from well-known franchises like Little Big Planet (Dreamscape), God of War (Hades), Jak and Daxter (Sandover Village), Ratchet & Clank (Metropolis), and the trivia game Buzz!. Gameplay is simple; X button is jump, and the others serve as attack buttons. To ensure a win players must collect Action Points and fill up their Super Meter. Each character has three levels of special powers, and more destruction can be achieved based on the level you’re at and good timing.

As we approach E3 this summer, more details will surely leak surrounding this anticipated button-masher. For now, check out the announcement trailer after the break and prepare your new arguments for the Nintendo fanboys.

Trailer round-up: ‘Hotel Transylvania’ & ‘Brave’ [Update: ‘This Is 40’ & ‘Prometheus’]

The next movie from Sony Pictures Animation is Hotel Transylvania, and Adam Sandler is Dracula. Here’s a nice and tidy synopsis:

Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world’s most famous monsters — Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more — to celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem — but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.

The talented voice cast includes Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, David Koechner, Cee Lo Green, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, and David Spade. Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of popular animated TV series like Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and most recently Star Wars: The Clone Wars, is directing. Hotel Transylvania hits theatres in 3D on September 28.

Now jump after the break for another look at Pixar’s Brave. Continue reading Trailer round-up: ‘Hotel Transylvania’ & ‘Brave’ [Update: ‘This Is 40’ & ‘Prometheus’]

Video game trailer: ‘God of War: Ascension’ brings Kratos back to the PS3

Here’s your very first look at the next God of War game that’s subtitled Ascension. After watching the teaser trailer, it’s assumed that this GoW will serve as a prequel and take place before the events played out in the other Kratos-led games. “There was a time before Kratos became the monster known as the Ghost of Sparta,” growls the teaser’s narrator. Besides this announcement video, the only other facts surrounding Ascension are these: Sony Santa Monica Studios is currently developing the game and Todd Pappy, GoW 3‘s design direction, is serving as the game director this time around. Is it too early to be hoping for a holiday 2012 release? More as more comes in.

Teaser trailer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Bruce Willis in sci-fi action thriller ‘Looper’

Fans of time travel, here’s an coming movie to keep on your radar.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

Joining Gordon Levitt (Inception) and Willis (Die Hard) are Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Looper is written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick). In theatres September 28. A video after the break features Gordon-Levitt and Johnson explaining the freakishly intriguing premise. Trailer round-up: Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted’, Colin Farrell in ‘Total Recall’ remake & ‘Rock of Ages’

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is making his feature film directing debut with the live action mixed with CGI comedy Ted. This clip is one of the funniest, well put together trailers I have ever seen. Yes, I am hyping this up for you because it is that good. (Note that this is a red-band trailer that includes lots of profanity and sexual references.) I do not want to harp too much on what you’re about to see because any kind of spoilery would ruin the viewing experience for you. So I will leave you with this not-so-revealing official synopsis:

In the live action/CG-animated comedy, [Seth MacFarlane] tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.

Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and director/writer/star Seth MacFarlane sounding a lot like Peter Griffin, opens July 13.

Trailer: ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’

Check out this trailer for the upcoming sci-fi comedy Safety Not Guaranteed. It stars Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Rec, Jake M. Johnson from New Girl, Karan Soni (who you might recognize from FOX’s Touch premiere), Kristin Bell, and Mark Duplass. The movie, which comes from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine, tells this story:

When an unusual classified ad inspires three cynical Seattle magazine employees to look for the story behind it, they discover a mysterious eccentric named Kenneth, a likable but paranoid supermarket clerk, who believes he¹s solved the riddle of time travel and intends to depart again soon. Together, they embark on a hilarious, smart, and unexpectedly heartfelt journey that reveals how far believing can take you.

Safety Not Guaranteed was screened at the Sundance Film Festival and SXSW this year and came out with radiant reviews. Watch the trailer for it above, then jump after the break to hear director Colin Trevorrow summarize and expand on what the movie is all about. What would you do if you discovered time travel? This film will tackle that question and simultaneously take you on an exploration of friendship and revelations. It opens June 8. Continue reading Trailer: ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’

Trailer 2: ‘The Dictator’

Here’s a new trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest Larry Charles-directed (BoratBrüno) flick, The Dictator. Unlike the premiere trailer, this one peels the wraps off the movie’s actual plot. We know that Cohen is General Admiral Alladeen, the tyrannical dictator of the fictitious Republic Of Wadiya. But what you might not have been aware of, the movie will follow the dictator in America stripped of his beard and identity. In New York City he meets Anna Faris and she gives him an opportunity for a fresh start. Try not to laugh.

The Dictator releases May 11.
