TV poster: ‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 [Update: promo teaser inside]

This official poster serves as a reminder that HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones returns for its third season on March 31, 2013.

Update (11/19): A promo teaser joins the promo poster after the jump. There is no actual footage from the upcoming season; what we get is this fiery and icy quote: “The great war is between death and life, ice and fire. If we lose, the night will never end.” Continue reading TV poster: ‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 [Update: promo teaser inside]

UPDATE: ‘Iron Man 3’ official first trailer is here

Update (10/23): As promised, Marvel has let loose the first full-length official trailer for Iron Man 3 today and it is mind-numbingly phenomenal. Tony Stark is having nightmares following the events “in New York” (aka The Avengers), Pepper Potts is in trouble, and at last we are formally introduced to Stark’s latest nemesis Mandarin (portrayed by Ben Kingsley) who believes there is no such thing as heroes. Voice overs from Iron Man and Mandarin, as well as crazy explosions and an epic score make this one exciting trailer that will surely induce a nerdgasm of intense proportions.

Eye official pictures from the movie at Apple Trailers. The short teaser has been relocated to after the break.

Previously: Today Marvel unleashed a trailer teaser (not even considered a teaser trailer) for Iron Man 3. The first real trailer is coming Tuesday, October 23, but the powers that be thought it’d be fun to tease the lengthier first look with this extremely brief, 17-second clip. Glean what you can from it, and then read the official synopsis below. Check back here on Tuesday for the upcoming trailer.

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black.

Movie trailer round-up: ‘Movie 43’, ‘The Lone Ranger’, ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ & ‘Lincoln’

First up is the very NSFW red-band trailer for Movie 43, a raunchy comedy that brings together the most unlikely group of actors under the same roof. The large ensemble cast includes familiar funny people like Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Bell, Anna Faris, Johnny Knoxville, Justin Long, Jack McBrayer, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chris Pratt, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis, and Seann William Scott. Also thrown into the mix? A-listers such as Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, and Titanic‘s Kate Winslet. So yeah.

Though the trailer doesn’t make it crystal clear, you will probably infer that Movie 43 consists various comedic vignettes. These segments were written by Rocky Russo, Jeremy Sosenko, Patrik Forsberg, Will Carlough, and James Gunn and they were received direction from a wide range of directors and even actors: Patrik Forsberg, Peter Farrelly, Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, James Gunn, Brett Ratner, and Bob Odenkirk (Saul from Breaking Bad!).

The highly inappropriate flick is lining up to be a hysterical laugh fest. It releases January 25.

TV teasers: ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’

Don’t expect to understand anything that’s going on in these three creep-tastic teasers for the next season of American Horror Story subtitled Asylum. In the first (titled “Special Delivery) a nun walks into a dark forest with two buckets filled with who the hell knows (I’m thinking body parts), dumps one of them out for some reason or other, and then continues nonchalantly into the woods. The next two are embedded after the break. In #2 (“Blue Coat”) we see a nun in black garb praying in an alcove as another in white passes by to hang a blue coat on the wall; then she sits down (to pray?) and at the very last second she sneaks a peek at us! In #3 (“Hydrobath”) we get a birds-eye view of a bathtub filled with a milky substance and inside it a body writhes around until a zipper magically locks the thing (a human?) inside. So many questions but these “clues” dropped by co-creator Ryan Murphy and co. will surely get you excited for what’s to come next in his anthology series.

American Horror Story: Asylum premieres this October on FX. Continue reading TV teasers: ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’

TV teasers: ‘FRINGE’ season 5

Fringe fans, I have not one but two teasers for you today. The first, embedded above, is simple yet enticing; as a barrage of Observers briskly walk toward the camera, our heroes (namely Broyles, Peter, Olivia, Walter, and September) recap the evolution of the term “Observer” as it has changed significantly since its introduction in season one. The teaser concludes with the final season’s tagline “they are coming.”

Next you’ll want to jump after the break to watch another new teaser that includes the very first real footage from the season five premiere. In it a happily married (Peter is indeed wearing a wedding band on his left hand) Peter and Olivia are enjoying themselves in a park with their daughter Etta when all of a sudden a group of Observers make it their mission to disturb the peace.

Fringe returns for its fifth and final season on Friday, September 28. Continue reading TV teasers: ‘FRINGE’ season 5

‘Skyfall’ teaser airs during the Olympics [Update: Lengthier theatrical trailers posted]

Shortly after Daniel Craig as James Bond escorted the Queen of England to the Olympics in this highly entertaining clip, NBC aired this new teaser for the upcoming 007 flick Skyfall. Though it mostly contains selections from the previously releases teaser trailer, there are some new shots featured here including a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at the movie’s antagonist Raoul Silva played by Javier Bardem and a stunning action sequence that is only slightly tongue-and-cheek there at the end.

Skyfall is out November 9.

Update: Jump after the break to find two new Skyfall trailers; they’re the best ones yet packed with jaw-dropping action sequences and our first real acquaintance with Bardem’s Silva. They are domestic and international versions of the same trailer, with only slight differences here and there. Discern them after the break. TV teaser: ‘Homeland’ season 2 [Update: new teaser]

For the sake of everyone who has yet to catch up on Showtime’s breakout drama Homeland, stop reading this and do not watch the teaser embedded above. If you have watched all 12 episodes that comprise season 1, Carrie on… (get it?)

Showtime has released this schizophrenic teaser to promote the second season of the critically acclaimed political drama Homeland starring the scene-stealer Claire Daines and the enigmatic Damian Lewis. When the season concluded, Carrie Mathison of the CIA stitched together Nicholas Brody’s “Issa” night terrors with the facts at hand; but before she could tell anyone her shock treatment began and her memories erased. Or were they? In the teaser above, Carrie stands in front of a barrage of images and sounds from season 1. Toward the end of the all-too-brief clip, she shuts her eyes, opens them and we hear, “You are a traitor and a terrorist and now it’s time to pay for that.” The promo is called “Look Again.”

Homeland returns Sunday, September 30 at 10PM on Showtime.

Update (8/7): Showtime has uploaded a second Homeland teaser; this one shows war vet-turned-politician Brody inching closer to the Vice President. He asks, “If everything you had was taken away and you had nothing left to lose, what lengths would you go to for the one idea that pulled you through?” Carrie, meanwhile, looks levelheaded and determined since we last saw her. Watch the 45 second clip after the break. Continue reading TV teaser: ‘Homeland’ season 2 [Update: new teaser]

Teaser trailers: ‘Man of Steel’

As promised, here is the teaser trailer for Zach Snyder’s upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel. But there’s a twist. Warner Bros. has released two trailers today. While the footage in both remains the same, it’s the narration that’s different. Kevin Costner, who plays Clark Kent’s adoptive father Jonathan Kent, shares his wisdom in the clip embedded above; Russell Crowe, who plays Kal-El’s biological father Jor-El, speaks in the teaser posted after the break. If Snyder’s Superman is going to capture our collective imagination and tell a story worth investing in, it must peel back the layer of steel and show the origins of how the man decided to become a superhero.

What these teasers suggested is that Clark (played by Henry Cavill) will have a decision to make: embrace his powers to fend off evildoers or take advantage of them for selfish purposes. Costner as father Kent says, “You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, is gonna change the world.” Crowe as Jor-El embues, “You will give the people an ideal to strive towards…In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.” Even as a young boy, having been supplanted from the planet Kypton to Earth, Clark aspires to become something super; he dons a small red cape in his yard as witnessed here. He is destined to grow up and become Superman; what this movie sets out to do is show us how he gets there. And if done right, Synder might just have the next best superhero saga following Nolan’s dissection of The Batman.

Man of Steel is due out Summer 2013. Continue reading Teaser trailers: ‘Man of Steel’

Comic Con 2012: ‘Once Upon A Time’ teases new fairytale characters for season 2

The second season of ABC’s Once Upon A Time is already proving to be more magical than the first. At the show’s Comic Con panel attendees got a glimpse into what’s in store for the citizens of Storybrooke. In a brief teaser for the upcoming season, little Henry warns that “bad things are still happening in Storybrooke” and proof follows: Captain Hook from Peter Pan fame breaks into Mr. Gold’s pawn shop to retrieve what is his. Now that the citizens of the mysterious Maine town remember their past lives in fairytale land perhaps Mr. Gold should upgrade his security. The season 2 preview is embedded above.

During the panel which consisted of executive producers Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and many of the show’s stars, it was shared that season 2 will reveal the identity of Henry’s father, Dr. Whale’s fairytale character, and the fate of Rumpelstiltskin’s son Bae. Also, “the show this year is not going to change from the one you loved last year,” Kitsis reassured fans. We will still be shifting back and forth from fairytale land and Storybrooke even though magic has been introduced into the latter locale. He also made it a point to say that even though the Storybrooke residents remember their true fairytale identities, their Storybrooke memories do not fade away.

Two more videos were screened at the panel. One is a clip that contains all of season 1’s title sequences plus a few new ones coming soon in season 2 (spoiler: Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, and Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk) will be introduced). The third video is a parody of online dating services called Singlebrooke that features Once‘s main characters discussing what they look for in the perfect mate; funny stuff. Check these out after the break. Continue reading Comic Con 2012: ‘Once Upon A Time’ teases new fairytale characters for season 2

Movie poster: ‘Anchorman 2’ (video teaser inside)

We already know it’s official. But now it’s official official. Director Adam McKay and star Will Ferrell are hard at work on the sequel to the 2004 cult comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. If this shiny poster says anything, its that the boys of the Channel 4 news team are back in action; that is, Ron (Ferrel), Champ (David Koechner), Brian (Paul Rudd), and Brick (Steve Carrell). Whether or not the film’s actual title is Anchorman: The Legend Continues is still debatable but seems likely.

In an interview with EW, McKay spilled the deets surrounding the secretive teaser trailer he and the stars recently cooked up. Producing the clip “was like the Manhattan Project–except without the possibility of destroying all of mankind, said McKay. He continued, “Paramount came to us with the idea of the teaser, and since we’re writing the script, it was a good chance to see the characters and hang out with the actors to inspire writing. All of the actors slipped right into character and they all looked amazing. Paul has a beard and we’re thinking of keeping it. Kind of an Eddie Rabbit-meets-Serpico look.” Unfortunately for viewers the super-teaser does not reveal an ounce of plot detail. “Nothing’s set,” McKay added. “Right now I can say for sure there is no Ghost Rider cameo or a scene where Ron fights a wolverine on a nose-diving helicopter. We’re either going to shoot the movie in 3-D or 1/2 D.”

The teaser hasn’t hit the web officially yet, but you can hop after the break to watch a shaky, shot-in-the-theatre version if you can’t wait any longer. It’s playing today in front of The Dictator, FYI. More as this story develops, San Diegites. Continue reading Movie poster: ‘Anchorman 2’ (video teaser inside)
