Trailer: Saw 3D

The seventh and final chapter in the highest grossing horror film franchise begins with this first theatrical trailer for Saw 3D.  The tagline?  “This October, the traps come alive.”  After a fantastic start (well II was pretty awful, III was freaking awesome), the Saw movies have steadily drifted downhill in value.  Sure the traps are always fun, but for me it was ultimately the twist endings and the John Kramer mythos that hooked me at the start.  After watching this brief trailer and reading what director Kevin Greutert (Saw VI) has to say about the final Saw, I’m excited to see how it’s all going to end.  “There’s something miraculous about creating a final chapter to the Saw chronology that not only gives the core fans everything they want and deserve, but also serves as a perfect introduction to audiences who are new to the series,” says Gruetart who served a role in every Saw movie.  Thoughts from producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg: “It’s been an amazing ride. As filmmakers it was important to us that Saw was one story in seven chapters rather than just a series of sequels.”  Tobin Bell (Jigsaw), Costas Mandylor (Mark Hoffman), and Betsy Russell (Jill Tuck) will reprise their roles.  Also, Cary Elwes (Dr. Lawrence Gordon), who has not been seen since the original Saw (not including archived/flashback footage), is back for revenge.

Besides the sick traps and inventive twists, if there’s anything I’m going to miss from the Saw franchise it’ll be Charlie Clouser’s fantastic and chilling score.  “Hello Zepp”, the song used in the first movie and recycled in the rest of them, will remain one of my favorite instrumentals of all time.  (FYI, it’s the song featured in the trailer above…and can be downloaded here.)

Saw 3D will duke it out with Paranormal Activity 2 this Halloween.  Look after the break for the movie poster.

Hitchcock movie posters re-envisioned

Graphic designer Laz Marquez has recreated the movie posters of four popular Hitchcock movies using his own imagination and input from designers Saul Bass and cinematographer Robert Burks.  They really came out great; he managed to capture the original essense of each movie injected with modern aesthetics.  Marquez on his Hitchcock poster design series:

“Since I’ve started this project, I’ve had such an amazing time taking each piece of cinematic history and re-imagining it on my own terms. It’s been spontaneous, challenging and overall fulfilling. In addition, it’s been amazing to put some of the process in the hands of my followers and see what they’ve wanted the project to evolve into. Overall, I couldn’t be happier!”

Ah man, how could they do this to us?  Tron: Legacy, the anticipated sequel to the 1982 cult hit, doesn’t hit theatres for another year.  Well, enjoy this for what it’s worth, and peek after the break for the teaser unveiled at this past year’s Comic Con.

Lost: The Final Season: characters returning, end date marked

Lost Picture

I love me my Lost news.  Let’s get right to it!

Remember that exclusive image I posted from Comic Con a while back now?  Well here it is in all it’s visible glory!  From left to right we can make out Faraday, Boone, Miles, Michael, Ana Lucia, Charlotte, Shannon, Desmond, Eko, Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Locke, Ben, Sayid, Libby, Sun, Jin, Claire, Hurley, Juliet, Charlie, Frank, Richard, Bernard, and Rose.  Notice Locke is facing away for reasons not fully explained yet.  Who is missing from the poster is equally important: Walt, Nikki, and Paulo.  Well, maybe not so much the latter two.  But where’s Walt??  WALT!!!  He was a season regular back in the beginning, and it is strange that he is not featured here alongside his season regulars (and some non-regulars) from over the years.  Check out the gallery below for up close shots of the poster to see for yourself.

In related news, EW has reported that Ian Somerhalder (Boone) is en route to Hawaii.  This can mean only one thing.  In fact Somerhalder confirms it: “I’m literally getting on a plane in 45 minutes to fly to Hawaii.  The only thing I can say is that I’m going back for several episodes….I have a script that weighs like 200 pounds, but I don’t really know what’s happening.”  This pretty much officially confirms Boone’s return to the island (or mainland), and the poster points to the remainder of the MIA/dead characters returning to the show.

And finally, I have exciting and sad news bunched into one.  The date has been pegged for the series finale of Lost: Wednesday, May 19th, 2010.  I just shed and tear and swallowed the bittersweet taste.

Look forward to LOST: The Final Season this January on ABC.

Lost Season 6 teaser poster

This promotional poster was shown at this year’s Comic Con during the Lost panel.  What is interesting about this image is that it includes ALL of the major characters from Lost, including some that we have not seen since Season 1.  More interesting is the image of character John Locke, whose back is faced outward (hinting at the repercussions from the recent season finale).  One thing is certain: Lost: The Final Season is going to be awesome!  I cannot wait.
