Aloe Blacc just put out a music video for “I Need A Dollar,” the catchy tune I discovered watching the opening credits of HBO’s How To Make It In America. This track is the first single off Blacc’s debut album Good Things, due out this summer. The music video splits the screen in half; one side follows a hustler walking the city streets and the other features Blacc singing. At 2:35 the video begins to play a part of his second single titled “Take Me Back.” He’s got a great old-school soul sound, something that’s missing in mainstream music today. I’m really looking forward to the album.

Music video: Blue Roses – Doubtful (in 3D, no glasses required)
Here’s a music video that incorporates 3D effects, and you can enjoy it without wearing those pesky glasses. LaughingSquid explains how it’s done: “Known as wiggle stereoscopy, the technique works by rapidly alternating between images shot from two cameras, slightly offset from one another.” Though the effect is certainly visible, the jittery movements of the camera make for a rather unpleasant experience. But it’s great to see artists taking fun creative risks!

Music video: Owl City – “Vanilla Twilight”
“Vanilla Twilight” is the second single off Adam Young’s second album Ocean Eyes. It follows the chart-topping “Fireflies” I’m sure you’ve been inundated with on the radio. But do yourself a favor and download the entire album, it’s pure ear candy. This music video finds Young back on his synthesizer and features a bunch of people staring up into a beautiful sky, dropping everything they are doing and watching the swirling, colorful clouds in wonder. Many speculate it’s symbolic of the rapture, or some sort of salvational revival. Can’t help but smile in awe along with them. (Why, hello Shaq.)
Music video: Kid Cudi – “Soundtrack 2 My Life”
And it’s finally here. The music video for arguably the most popular single off Kid Cudi’s debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day. It’s not a music video in the traditional sense. Rather than have Cudi sing throughout the video, director Jason Goldwatch and Decon Creative Group decided to splice together months of tour footage. In a way “Soundtrack 2 My Life” gives us a look into the crazy life that is touring for Kid Cudi and it’s definitely a fun ride. The tour footage used in this music video is part of a larger project that Cudder, Goldwatch, and Decon are putting together for fans. We can all look forward to that. And Cudder.

Music video: Chip tha Ripper – “Like That”
Chip tha Ripper is an up and coming rapper who’s been featured on songs like Kid Cudi’s “Hyyer” (from Man on the Moon: The End of Day) and Big Sean’s “Okay” (from his upcoming debut album Finally Famous). Like what you hear? Chip’s got three mixtapes out now; download his latest one titled The Cleveland Show, here.
Music video: Diane Birch – “Valentino” (Super cool augmented reality!)
Watch this music video for Diane Birch’s catchy tune “Valenino,” a single off her debut album Bible Belt. It features some old-school augmented reality tricks. It all looks easy at first glance, but there is much choreography that had to be memorized and performed to perfection in order to pull everything off. Just look after the break for a behind-the-scenes video that reveals all the magic and see what I mean.

Dakota Fanning is all grown up in ‘The Runaways’
I really don’t know what happened, but actress Dakota Fanning is no longer that little girl from War of the Worlds and Charlotte’s Web. In the biopic The Runaways, Fanning plays rocker Cherie Currie alongside Kristin Stewart’s Joan Jett. Above is the music video for “Cherry Bomb” and it features a scantily clad, microphone wielding Dakota Fanning. Like what you hear? The movie soundtrack is available at iTunes. She’s only 16-years-old, so keep it down a notch, OK?
Music video: Module – “Amethyst Caverns” (from the video game Shatter)
A retro inspired, modern crafted audio journey from the critically acclaimed video game Shatter. A rich soundscape that flows through electro rock and retro beats, epic guitar solos and spacey vibes.
Crafted by artist Module in close collaboration with game production studio Sidhe, the music takes the listener on a hypnotic journey through the lush visuals and scenery of the game. Inspired by classic video game titles, and reimagined for the modern era, the Shatter Soundtrack merges an eclectic mix of genres from Electro to Glam Rock. Emotionally rich base lines are mixed with soaring guitar solos in 8-minute long tracks that are decadent and guilty pleasures for the ear.
The music video was shot with a Canon 5D MarkII. iTunes has the full soundtrack for the game Shatter. Click here for more information about Shatter; it’s available on the PlayStation Network and PC.

SNL Digital Short: The Lonely Island – “Boombox”
The Loney Island is back with their latest music video off their debut album Incredibad. “Boombox” adds to a growing list of SNL Digital Shorts that have been made featuing songs off the album; they include “Lazy Sunday,” “Dick in a Box,” “Natalie’s Rap,” “We Like Sportz,” “Ras Trent,” “Space Olympics,” “Jizz In My Pants,” “I’m On a Boat,” and “Like a Boss.” The Dudes (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone) have made another hilarious video for another great song. “Boombox” features vocals from The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas and is directed by Kiv. Having listened to it many times, this video totally lived up to my imagination.
Music video: Lady Gaga – “Telephone” (Featuring Beyonce)
OK people. This is the strangest, most bizarre music video Lady Gaga has made, ever. She’s very close to being nude throughout almost the entire video, and somehow she was able to transform Beyonce into one of her ‘monster’ followers. The song is catchy, sure…but this level of ‘unique’ is too far out there for me. From the live cigarrette sunglasses to the Coke can hair rollers, this Thelma & Louise-ian ride in the PussyWagon is all a bit too much and over-the-top. Go ahead and watch all 9-plus minutes of the video and form your own opinions.
Music video: Rihanna – “Disturbia” (live performance)
Check out this live performance of Rihanna’s “Disturbia.” It was recorded for AOL Sessions. It’s worth a listen because Rihanna puts a different spin on the song; it’s slower and softer than the original rendition. And I like it.
