Music video: Death Cab for Cutie – “Home is a Fire”

The next single off Death Cab’s upcoming seventh studio album Codes and Keys is “Home is a Fire.” And with the release of it comes this voyeuristic music video directed by Shepard Fairey, the street artist most famous for these works of art. The video takes you on a journey through Los Angeles, and band bassist Nick Harmer–who helped conceptualize it–explains what it’s all about. “For me, ‘Home Is A Fire’ is about redefining familiar space,” Harmer said. “The narrator in the song seems unsettled, searching and yearning, scanning the environment for something comforting in an uncomfortable place. I knew that if the band would give me a chance to make a visual accompaniment to this song that those would be the themes and mood that I would most want to highlight and accentuate.”

Codes and Keys drops May 31.

Music video: Lady Gaga – “Judas”

Check out the latest music video from the Haus of Gaga. The religious-themed single receives an appropriately-matched video that is directed by Gaga and Laurieann Gibson. Lady Gaga as Mary Magdalene gets caught in the middle of a love triangle of sorts between Jesus Christ and Judas the traitor (portrayed by The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus). Beyond the controversial religious tone, the choreography is all kinds of fun. Born This Way drops May 23.

Music video: Pusha T – “My God”

Pusha T’s solo career is about to go on fire. About a month after he released his first mixtape Fear of God he’s now let out a music video for the track “My God.” The Ryan Reichenfeld and Pusha-directed video hints at the G.O.O.D. Music rapper’s debut album at the very end. Fear of God 2: Let Us Pray is due out this June.

Update: One half of the Clipse has just uploaded another music video. Check out “Can I Live” right after the break. Continue reading Music video: Pusha T — “My God”

Music video: Britney Spears – “Till The World Ends”

So what’s gonna happen when the world ends in December 2012? The sky will darken and buildings will shatter apart, skyscraper chunks falling from above. Humans will seek refuge underground in the sewers and dance till the world ends. That’s all according to the latest music video from comeback queen Britney Spears. The former Mickey Mouse Club member autotunes her way through this banging club beat, just as she did in her previous single “Hold It Against Me.” While the lyrics scribed by Ke$ha are nothing to rave about, the Dr. Luke/Max Martin/Billboard-produced track provides a mighty fine sound and will fit in just fine at both American and European clubs. My only issue with the video is that we don’t get to see Britney’s dancing talents for more than a few seconds at a time; the choreography is fun, but every time she starts to get into a groove the shot cuts away to something else going on. I found this to occur even more so in her previous vid. With that said, the Ray Kay-directed video sits above so hit play and get ready to bounce-bounce-bounce. (Can you spot the transparent multitouch DJ controller?)

Music video: Asher Roth – “Gotta Get Up”

In between his debut album Asleep in the Bread Aisle and his upcoming sophomore attempt The Spaghetti Tree (due out later this year) Asher Roth collaborated with rapper Nottzz to produce the 8-track Rawth EP. “Gotta Get Up” is a track from that 2010 release, and this here is the corresponding music video. In it we stumble around a neighborhood with the “I Love College” rapper and now he’s donning a hobo-ish persona with his long blond locks and scraggly golden beard. Director Luke Tedaldi does a fine job at using unconventional filters and effects to warp Asher and his surroundings in cool ways. Check out the vid above, and download the Rawth EP for free right here.

The Lonely Island reveals new album title, cover & release date, premieres “We’re Back!” music video

I’ve got big news for all you Lonely Island fans out there. The Dudes (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone) opened up about their followup album to 2009’s Grammy-nominated smash hit Incredibad last night during their guest stint on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The record’s called Turtleneck & Chain and it drops May 10 on Universal Republic Records. The album cover features the Dudes, well, acting all cool in turtlenecks and chains (see it after the break). When asked why they chose this particular image for the new album Jorma admitted that “when we met each other in eighth grade that was pretty much the look that we all had.” In addition to spilling all this info, the Dudes used LNWJF as a platform to premiere the the first track off the album; it’s called “We’re Back!” and its embedded above waiting for you to hit play. You probably don’t have to be warned, but be mindful of the insane amount of profanity used in the video. The black-and-white vid is all about dicks. So, yeah. Jorma is the major player here, but Akiva and Andy spit nasty rhymes too. Jorma ends the song with this: “We started this fake rap sh–, the world needs us!” He’s right, we do.

So kick back and watch “We’re Back,” and while you’re in a Lonely Island mood rewatch “I Just Had Sex” and “The Creep” (two other confirmed tracks on the record) and start counting down the days til Turtleneck & Chain’s May 10 release.

Music video: Katy Perry – E.T. (Featuring Kanye West)

Aliens! Floating in space! It’s got to be the premiere of Katy Perry’s music video for the insanely catchy tune “E.T.” The video is brimmed with sci-fi aesthetics. The video opens with freaky looking alien hovering in zero-gravity space; soon enough it transforms into the pop star. Kanye West pops up throughout the episode, also floating around in a bottomless pit of darkness; his lower row of sparkly teeth light up the scene. Bits and pieces of the song are mixed differently you’ll notice. Perry also throws in a new verse for good measure. Overall the video is just OK since the story it tells is lacking in depth (but listen to the lyrics, was to be expected?); however, Perry put much effort into costume design and makeup and these aspects of the vid were certainly made for impressive eye candy. And now to get this song out of my head…

WORLD ORDER creates music video to highlight Japan’s solidarity following the natural disaster

In this music video titled “Machine Civilization,” Japanese dancer and martial artist Genki Sudo leads a group of businessmen in a synchronized routine against a synth-pop background not unlike music you’re used to hearing from Canadian musician Owl City.

The unprecedented disasters unfolding in Japan; earthquakes, tsunami, and nuclear explosions, will somehow change things to come. And to send my message about this, I have expressed it here with WORLD ORDER.

In collaboration with Takashi Watanabe, Sudo wrote these words and produced this song and video to share with the world a message of solidarity following the natural disaster that occurred in Japan. The spectacular slo-mo syncronicity highlights the “WE ARE ALL ONE” message he is trying to send.

If you haven’t played a part in assisting relief efforts, please do so now. Text REDCROSS to 90999 and $10 will make its way into the right hands.

Another way to donate money is to purchase Songs for Japan, a digital-only album available on iTunes that includes 38 tracks from well-known recording artists. John Lennon, U2, Katy Perry, Eminem, Elton John, Kings of Leon, Bruno Mars–it’s an eclectic mix of songs you know and should have in your library. The album’s priced at $9.99 and 100% of profits are dedicated to relief efforts in Japan.

Music video: The Black Eyed Peas – “Just Can’t Get Enough”

Here’s the latest music video from The Black Eyed Peas. This is the second clip off the Peas’ record The Beginning; it follows the video for “The Time (Dirty Bit).” Interestingly, this video was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami took place there. The Peas made sure to regard the matter in the opening and closing of the video. Before it starts a message reads, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people of Japan. We love you.” At the end it advises viewers to text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to support relief efforts.

Fergie explains what the video is about but her words–like the video–get lost in the disaster that occurred. “It was the easiest video I ever shot because it was us living our lives. I love that it’s showing a true perspective of how it can sometimes be lonely on the road away from our loved ones. It also demonstrates the love and connection we have with Japan.  Our heart goes out to all of the Japanese people who have been affected by this natural disaster.”

Good Charlotte brings back ‘Double Dare’ in their new music video

Good Charlotte teamed with Funny or Die to turn their new music video into a nostalgic hit. “Last Night,” a cut off their latest record Cardiology, was filmed on the Family Double Dare set and features the Nickelodeon game show’s host Marc Summers. I really miss all those wacky and messy competitions; let’s hope that Nick has plans to re-air some of the classic episodes later this fall.

Music video: Sara Bareilles – “Uncharted”

Everybody loves Sara Bareilles. Why? Because she’s brilliantly talented, has a wonderful voice, and she happens to be super cute. However, if you think you’ll be watching her perform in this followup music video to her first Kaleidoscope Heart single “King of Anything” you’re sorely mistaken. Though she does make a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance at the very end of the clip, the video for “Uncharted” stars countless celebrities mouthing the words to the catchy tune. You’ll spot (Professor) Ben Folds, Josh Groban, Pharrell Williams, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, and YouTube lip-syncing sensation Keenan Cahill, among many others. Go on, mash play and sing along!
