Twisty bridge aims to connect separate lands, physically & culturally

This proposed bridge has two objectives: to act as a “crossing facility” by connecting Hong Kong with mainland China and to solve the driving-on-the-right-side-of-the-road problem:

Hong Kong has traffic on the left where china has traffic on the right  In principle this has to be taken into consideration with the border crossing facilities.  Within the proposed master layout plan this leads to fairly unarticulated intersections.  It solves the switch, but does not communicate it ‘explicitly’.

The “flipper” aims to redirect traffic in an efficient safe way. Here’s the design under consideration:

Christmas tree made from 1,000 Heineken beer bottles

Chinese designers decided to go all out this year by constructing a Christmas tree out of 1,000 FULL Heineken beer bottles.  Yeah, that’s a lot of beer right there, just waiting to get toppled over and wasted.  Though the bright green hue of the large stature is quite impressive, the designers could have been a bit more eco-friendly if they were to use the limitless number of empty beer bottles at the ready.  Anyway, check out some close-up shots in more detail in the gallery below.  The “tree” is located in Shanghai, China.

UFO sighting by chinese scientists

Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing have captured 40 minutes of (what they believe to be) UFO footage recorded during a solar eclipse back on July 22.  According to Chinese TV, people witnessed a “glowing blue sphere” that changed its shape repeatedly.

Observatory director Ji Hai-sheng: “Purple Mountain Observatory and Chinese Academy of Sciences said that during the July 22 total solar eclipse observation, China had discovered near the sun, by observing staff, an unidentified object, it’s physical nature remains to be further studied. Currently manpower is being organized to deal with this data, complete the data analysis and reveal the scientific results and this will take at least one year’s time to finalize.”
