Short film: Bits In Pieces

Dutch company OGD ICT Services has gone ahead and created this brilliantly intricate short film called “Bits In Pieces” with nothing but nylon wires, cardboard, and crêpe paper.  No special effect whatsoever are included.  When you think about it, this clip about computer malfunction and its bizarre ramifications must’ve been a crazy bitch to put together.  But the creative team pulled it off in fantastic fashion.  Sit back, relax, and enjoy the five minute short above, then peek after the break for a more lengthy behind-the-scenes video.

Music video: Caspa & Mr Hudson – “Love Never Dies” (+ new Hudson track “Angel Eyes”)

Look what we’ve got here.  Two new tracks from UK phenom Mr Hudson.  If you haven’t listened to his debut solo album go ahead and download Straight No Chaser right now.  Got it?  Good.  Moving on… Not too long ago Hudson was approached by Caspa, a well known Dubstep producer from London, who asked Hudson to invent lyrics for his electronic dance track “Back For The First Time”.  After listening to the instrumental beat Hudson immediately agreed to make a hook for the track and, well, take a listen to it in the video above.  After listening to both versions, Hudson’s easily takes the cake; his words perfectly match up with Caspa’s building tempo and make for a great song that can now receive ample radio time.  And apparently “the track has been lighting up dancefloors & airwaves globally”.  The music video was directed by Mo Ali; make sure to peek after the break to watch a making-of video that accompanies the music video.  You can download the track at iTunes; it’s available on a 5-track EP.

Next up is a brand spankin’ new track from Mr Hudson.  “Angel Eyes” carries a unique, dark, gritty sound that we are not used to hearing from Hudson’s repitoire.  The slow vocals and flow are very laid back and Hudson manages to maintain his edge quite effortlessly.  It really sounds like a song fellow G.O.O.D. Music artist Kid Cudi would come up with (it’s not as dark as “Solo Dolo” but that strange, eerie vibe remains).  There’s no word on whether or not this track comes from his next yet-to-be-titled album.  Preview and download it below.

Showrunners Robert Kirkman & Frank Darabont talk up AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ (first BTS video!)

Having followed the initial murmurs of the new AMC zombie program based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book of the same name, it’s very exciting to see the first behind-the-scenes video footage of  The Walking Dead coming together.  The show follows a group of survivors who are forced to deal with the aftermath of a devastating zombie apocalypse.  Kirkman serves as executive producer.  In the video above he gushes about how swimmingly the show is assembling as the season premiere looms in the near distance (this October).  Writer/director/exec producer Frank Darabont is also having a blast making this show.  “We’re going to following the Robert Kirkman narrative pretty closely,” Darabont reveals.  “We’re giving ourselves permission to veer off the path and find the interesting detours.”  So far, Kirkman has had no problem with Darabont’s methods.  We’ve seen production stills from the set, but there’s nothing like seeing these zombies in action.  And man do they look scary as hell.  But we should expect nothing less from makeup/special FX lead Greg Nicotero.  This show hasn’t even started yet and I’m hooked.  And that’s why I got so excited when I heard Darabont utter these words: “I’d like to do twenty years of zombie TV.”

Behind the scenes with Mr Hudson

Just last week UK artist Mr Hudson finally dropped his debut solo album Straight No Chaser in the U.S.  On his YouTube page Hudson posted a number of behind-the-scenes featurettes that show how much effort he put into making the record.  I embedded my favorite video above; it’s a peek at how the killer track “Time” was constructed.  The video shows how frustration can be turned into a fine work of art with some hard work and perseverence.  Watching Hudson figure out the song’s skeleton on the piano and then peering into the studio to see him listen to a mastered version of it is quite satisfying.  Look after the break for the making of “Anyone But Him” and “Everything Is Broken”, with appearences by Kanye West and Kid Cudi, respectively.  And if you haven’t downloaded the album yet, get it here.

Music video: Diane Birch – “Valentino” (Super cool augmented reality!)

Watch this music video for Diane Birch’s catchy tune “Valenino,” a single off her debut album Bible Belt.  It features some old-school augmented reality tricks.  It all looks easy at first glance, but there is much choreography that had to be memorized and performed to perfection in order to pull everything off.  Just look after the break for a behind-the-scenes video that reveals all the magic and see what I mean.

Halo: Reach behind-the-scene documentary

Take a peek into the reconstructed Halo Universe.  Halo production leaders discuss how Halo: Reach ties back to our very first glipse of the vast world Bungie created in Halo: Combat Evolved (“that sense of wonder and exploration”) and why they decided to rebuild it all from the ground up.  “This is the definitive Halo made by the people who created Halo.”  Aaaand I’m pumped.  Check out a handful of new screenshots and artwork below.
