We’ve already seen the viral iDont and pods falling from space promos. Now Verizon has decided to take a turn in marketing strategy moving towards more traditional “this is what the product can actually do” commercials. I mean, what does DroidDoes do does did? Peek after the break for two more spots that will take over the airwaves “soon.”
This subway ad for the upcoming movie 2012 misleads the viewer into thinking that the walls are collapsing and water is consuming the area. Run for your lives!
Silly man, it’s the Droid by Motorola, Verizon’s first Android phone. It does everything iDon’t, remember? The Droid “drops” November 6. (That’s tomorrow, people!)
I’m really enjoying this super sci-fi viral marketing campaign. Never has Verizon created such a bold and exciting ad campaign. And it’s working; there’s much hype for tomorrow’s highly anticipated launch.
Now that HTC is becoming more of a household brand with its slew of sleek cell phones coming out for AT&T (Pure, Tilt2), T-Mobile (G1, myTouch 3G), and Verizon (Touch Diamond, Imagio, O-Zone, Droid Eris?), it deserves an ad campaign to further integrate its brand image and make a name for itself in the consumer world. And you know what, it works for me. The “HTC You” campaign commercials and print ads are clean, sleek, and catchy (“You don’t need to get a phone. You need a phone that gets you”). And most important of all they get the HTC name out there and get people talking. And talk people should do–HTC, their partnerships with companies like Google, and their self-concocted Sense UI really do pay off their great, user-friendly handsets. Here’s a couple treats for you. Apple has already started the anti-ad war against Windows 7 with this latest (and in my opinion, one of the greatest) “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” advertisement. Look after the break for two more new Windows 7 bashing ads.
Nerd alert: Remember the picture of the Windows 7-branded burger from Burger King? Well here’s proof that it existed and that people paid the premium to eat it. Gross. Look after the break for a second burger video.
APPLE, WATCH OUT. Verizon is taking the battle to you, not AT&T, with this advertisement that is pushing over the airwaves on major networks such as FOX.
The 30 second spot begins with a bunch of “iDon’t” phrases, clearly bashing the Apple iPhone for all the things it can’tdo. This plays alongside an Apple commercial-esque playful tune. About 20 seconds in the viral fun begins. The phrase “Droid Does” forms in a futuristic and mechanistic way and it leaves the viewer with a hint: something is coming in November. Those who closely watched the ad caught the text visible on the bottom of the screen. This is a commercial for Verizon, and, interestingly, Verizon had to state that “Droid is a registered trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd., licensed to Verizon.” (It seems as if Mr. George Lucas owns the word “droid.”)
Anyway..after further investigation, all signs point to this being a commercial for Verizon’s first Android-powered cell phone, properly called “Droid.” (For all you fellow techies, its code-name was Sholes.) This device is developed by Motorola and will run Google’s Android operating system, version 2.0. The teaser page includes an “alien counter” that has been decyphered; the timer ends on October 30. Will more information be released about this mystery device on that date? We shall wait and see…
Well, looks like we don’t have to wait thatlong for some new info. The fellas at Boy Genius Report have captured some images of the Motorola Droid. Here’s a summation of their “hands-on:” it runs Android 2.0; it’s very thin (for a QWERTY smartphone); it’s fast; it has a 3.7 inch capacitive display; it runs on a TI OMAP3430 processor; it has a 5-megapixel camera (with flash). From the looks of this strategically placed billboard advertisement all signs point to a resounding “yes.” This photo was taken on the set of the upcoming film “Battle: Los Angeles” in Louisiana. Publisher Insomniac Games had no comment on the matter. Nevertheless, hold on to your hats, gamers; it looks like you’ll be fighting the next alien invasion on Earth in the great city of New York (see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building) in the next installment of Resistance soon.
Come on, Microsoft marketers. You can surely do better than this. When a company attemps to rebrand a major compenent of its structure the aim is to make things clear not foggy. Windows Mobile is now Windows Phone. I got that. These new phones run only on AT&T? Is the HTC Pure THE Windows phone? Obviously the answer to both of these questions is “no,” but this commercial unfortunately makes it all too confusing for mainstream consumers.
A few months ago Intel created an ad campaign highlighting who they deem are “rockstars.” One of these commericals highlighted Ajay Bhatt, the co-inventor of the USB port. After some investigating, the crew at The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien found out that the Bhatt in the Intel commercial was not Bhatt but an look-alike actor. So, Conan decided to sit down with Bhatt in what turns out to be an informative and obviously comical interview. The clip shows the original Intel ad…and at the end of the clip, Conan reveals a new one, this time featuring Bhatt himself. Worth the watch, enjoy!
