If these Brodmann Blades catch on, you can bet that the game of ping pong will change dramatically. “By moving the front and back of the paddle away from each other and removing the grip altogether, the Blades are able to offer a glove-like fit, and promise a faster and more intuitive game, more spin on the ball, and superior control.” I’m going to have to try these paddles on for size before I make further commentary about them. Price at $100, we may have to rely on the hard-core amateurs to give ’em a spin. (Mind you, $100 buys you a set of two paddles, with four logo-adorned balls, terrycloth wristbands, and a zip-up carrying case.)
I shall allow designer To22 explain exactly the significance of this ring:
To22 created something nearly perfect. A continuous ring, delicately proportioned, beautifully polished and seemingly flawless. There is only one tiny imperfection. A speck, no larger than a piece of dust. At a glance, it is barely noticeable. Upon close examination, it appears intentional and more clearly defined. Only magnification reveals the actual object set within the miniature interior. It is a model of the known universe. Inspired by the writing of Stephen Hawking and loosely based on the anthropic theory to22 puts our daily pursuits into perspective and reminds us that we are always a part of something bigger.
Let the slightest imperfection make us remember that we are always a part of something bigger.
When you leave the Google search box blank and click the “I’m Feeling Lucky” option you are lead to a page that displays a mysterious countdown clock…but to what? The end of the world in 2012? World peace? Unfortunately it’s not as exciting as either of those pending events. Simple math calculations reveal that it is counting down to the new year, the end of the first decade in the 2000s. Interestingly the timer only shows up in the following URLs: Google.com, Google.co.uk, Google.ie and Google.com.au; Google German and French are left out of the prank. I guess this is Google’s way of wishing everyone a happy new year, besides changing their homepage logo on the day of, of course.

Attach a camera to the front side of all large trucks, have the recorded image projected onto the back of the trucks, and viola!–now we can all see what’s lying ahead beyond the giant truck stuck in front of us. That is the conceptual thinking behind Art Lebedev’s Transperentius. This system will allow for large trucks to become seemingly transparent, providing additional road safety and assurance. Bear in mind that this is an Art Lebedev project (uber-expensive), so don’t hold your breath for its near existence to suddenly spring about. Why he places a tank in his visual recreation is beyond me.

Cipher Drinking Glass. Designed by Damjan Stankovic.
While these drinking glasses appear to be decorated with many tiny colorful squares, their function goes far beyond looks. When liquid is added to the glass, it can decipher (get it?) what you are drinking. For example, if you pour in some OJ, the side of the glass will read “orange” or if you pour in some Coke it’ll read “coca cola.” Don’t ask me how it works because I don’t know. Hell, it’s just a concept. But one can dream, right?
Before Relapse 2 is released later next year, Eminem is sharing with us seven new tracks in a re-release of this year’s comeback album Relapse. Two of the seven new songs include iTunes singles “Hell Breaks Loose” (featuring Dr Dre) and Elevator. “Forever,” the slick single that also features Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, is also on the album. Eminem kills it on that track; his verse alone makes the song a great single. Look after the break for a full track listing.
Eminem on Refill: “I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned. Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year.” Em also comments on his time in the studio: “I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff to be heard.”
Relapse: Refill officially drops today but will made available for download on iTunes this Tuesday.

This here is the Calabi-Yau Manifold Crystal. To find out how it relates to string theory and the dimensions we humans cannot experience, read on:
According to string theory, space-time is not four-dimensional as you might expect, but actually 10-dimensional. The extra six dimensions are believed to be compactified or rolled up into such a small space that they are unobservable at human scales of sight. Their size and six dimensions make Calabi-Yau spaces difficult to draw. But, this model shows a three-dimensional cross-section of this likely space to reveal its structure and shape.
Oh, and it’s only $90 for that lucky physicist in your life, available here to purchase.

“Invisible Shoes.” Designed by Andreia Chaves.
The “Invisible Shoes” are low-cut boots covered in asymmetrical mirrors that reflect the wearer’s surroundings and create a different optical effect with every step.
These mirrored shoes are only concept footwear for now. But can’t you picture someone like Lady Gaga so wanting a pair of these?
Ah man, how could they do this to us? Tron: Legacy, the anticipated sequel to the 1982 cult hit, doesn’t hit theatres for another year. Well, enjoy this for what it’s worth, and peek after the break for the teaser unveiled at this past year’s Comic Con.
