True Blood stars Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin, and Stephen Moyer posed nude covered in fake blood for the next issue of Rolling Stone, set to hit newsstands August 20. I have yet to start watching the HBO hit, but from what I’m told it quickly turned into crazy sexy vampire porn. If that’s the case I’d say this cover is fitting, wouldn’t you?

That’s right–it’s Hurley! In an interview with Spinner Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo explained where the idea of having Lost‘s Jorge Garcia cover their next LP:
“We struggled super hard trying to come up with an album title, trying to find some kind of phrase that summed up the whole aesthetic behind the album: ‘Heavy Mental,’ ‘Smaller Than Life.’ I was coming up with all kinds of stuff, but ultimately, we just went with some random word that doesn’t really have anything to do with anything. I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia — it just had this amazing vibe. We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the Hurley record’ even if we left it without that title, so we just called it ‘Hurley.’ No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face.”
Although he “really like[s] the show” Cuomo confesses there’s no connection between Lost and the next collection of music from Weezer. Oh well…the cover rocks! Hurley releases September 14.
Remember that 45 gigapixel panorama of the Dubai cityscape I showed you back in early May? Well a new gigapixel photograph has arrived, dethroning the Dubai image as the world’s largest digital photograph. A whopping 75 gigapixel image, 360 degree panorama of Budapest is the new champ. The image was taken with two 25-megapixel Sony A900 digital cameras fitted with 400mm Minolta lenses and 1.4X teleconverters. And get a load of this: a printed version of the image measures at 15 meters long and the image file size is 200GB! But enough blabber. Head over to site the hosts the intertactive image. Click the top button on the control bar at the left to enter full screen mode, scrub around the enormous image using your mouse, and feel free to see what the neighbors are doing by using the zoom slider on the left. You see all those teeny tiny houses scattered in the image above? Thanks to the highly detailed nature of this image you can zoom all the way into them. Mind-boggling impressive, eh?
Remember when Joaquin Phoenix grew a filthy beard, stopped going to the barber, and decided to quit acting to become a rapper and act like a total idiot (much to our amusement) on Letterman? Well all of that insanity will culminate in the upcoming (mock?)-umentary film titled I’m Still Here. Magnolia Pictures recently outed the official poster for the Casey Affleck-directed movie (see above) and it’s been confirmed that it will release wide on September 10. The press release describes the movie as “sometimes funny, sometimes shocking and always riveting, the film is a portrait of an artist at a crossroads. Defying expectations, it deftly explores notions of courage and creative reinvention, as well as the ramifications of a life spent in the public eye.” Are you willing to pay money to find out what exactly happened to Phoenix during his tumultuous days as an actor-turned-hip-hop artist? Was he for real or was it all just a hoax for a social experiment?
Update: Theatrical trailer posted after the break.
The seventh and final chapter in the highest grossing horror film franchise begins with this first theatrical trailer for Saw 3D. The tagline? “This October, the traps come alive.” After a fantastic start (well II was pretty awful, III was freaking awesome), the Saw movies have steadily drifted downhill in value. Sure the traps are always fun, but for me it was ultimately the twist endings and the John Kramer mythos that hooked me at the start. After watching this brief trailer and reading what director Kevin Greutert (Saw VI) has to say about the final Saw, I’m excited to see how it’s all going to end. “There’s something miraculous about creating a final chapter to the Saw chronology that not only gives the core fans everything they want and deserve, but also serves as a perfect introduction to audiences who are new to the series,” says Gruetart who served a role in every Saw movie. Thoughts from producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg: “It’s been an amazing ride. As filmmakers it was important to us that Saw was one story in seven chapters rather than just a series of sequels.” Tobin Bell (Jigsaw), Costas Mandylor (Mark Hoffman), and Betsy Russell (Jill Tuck) will reprise their roles. Also, Cary Elwes (Dr. Lawrence Gordon), who has not been seen since the original Saw (not including archived/flashback footage), is back for revenge.
Besides the sick traps and inventive twists, if there’s anything I’m going to miss from the Saw franchise it’ll be Charlie Clouser’s fantastic and chilling score. “Hello Zepp”, the song used in the first movie and recycled in the rest of them, will remain one of my favorite instrumentals of all time. (FYI, it’s the song featured in the trailer above…and can be downloaded here.)
Saw 3D will duke it out with Paranormal Activity 2 this Halloween. Look after the break for the movie poster.
Feast your eyes on this. Using a Canon EOS 7D, fireworks sparklers, and long exposure time, photographers Mina Mikhael and Matthew Barhoma managed to capture this spectacular image. Explore the metadata in the Flickr source link below.
When the Lost season 6 and complete series collection DVD/Blu-ray packages were first detailed, we were informed that a bonus footage would “go deeper into the world of LOST with a much-anticipated new chapter of the island’s story from executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.” This week more details surrounding said footage have surfaced. According to EW, it is an “original, 12-minute vignette called “The New Man in Charge,” a tantalizing look at what Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Ben (Michael Emerson) do as the new Island overseers.” They even got their hands on a still (see above)! What’s that Ben doing in a Dharma jumpsuit? Emerson says, “Ben is going around to Dharma installations and closing some down. There are some good surprises…it does answer questions.” August 24, come sooner please?
FOX might have cancelled the sci-fi adventure Dollhouse due to dismal ratings, but that won’t keep the show from living on–in comic book form that is. When Dollhouse season 2 releases on DVD and Blu-ray on October 12, a single comic book issue titled “Epitaphs” will come bundled inside. It’s exclusive to the DVD/BD release meaning you won’t find it in comic book stores. “Epitaphs” was written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (newly husband and wife, Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon’s brother and sister-in-law, respectively). If you happen to be at Comic Con right now, (Jed) Whedon and Tancharoen will be on hand to sign a litho created by Dark Horse Comics on Friday (7/23) from 11am-noon. I will leave you with the official synopsis:
“Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, joined by longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Cliff Richards, take us on an intricate trip through the precise moment when the Active technology went global, and how the protagonists from Epitaph One and Two narrowly avoided death, and worse.Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen wrote the Epitaph episodes of Dollhouse Seasons One and Two, and currently write for the Starz series Spartacus. This is their first work in comics. Artist Cliff Richards has drawn more Joss Whedon-related comics than any other artist, including issues of Buffy Season Eight.”
Designer Scianca thought long and hard about the right kind of material to use in creating a new dress. Her eureka moment told her: recycled VHS tapes. And you know what? I think it looks downright sexy. I’m just stuck wondering what movies/home videos she’s wearing. Look after the break for an additional shot.
