‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ parodies ‘Game of Thrones’

Jimmy Fallon and his talented team at Late Night have a new digital series parodying HBO’s popular fantasy series Game of Thrones aptly titled Game of Desks. Fallon pulls double duty portraying skewed versions of Ned Stark and Daenerys Targaryen here, as does announcer Higgins who plays a convincing Lord Varys and Khal Drogo. From the impressive opening animation to the elaborate set pieces and wardrobe, Game of Desks makes an entertaining Thrones parody that every fan of the show will enjoy watching. Mash play and take it in! Catch some fantastic promotional posters in the gallery below.

J.J. Abrams presents ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ deleted scene featuring Benedict Cumberbatch

Don’t worry, no spoilers here… This week director J.J. Abrams visited Conan and presented a short but definitely sweet deleted scene from his Star Trek sequel Into Darkness. If you’ve seen the movie, you know there’s a scene where a shirtless James T. Kirk is found in bed with two half-naked aliens. To balance it out, Abrams had envisioned a scene where moviegoers would also get to see the film’s antagonist played by Benedict Cumberbatch without his shirt on. In this case, it’s a fleeting moody shower sequence. Cumberbatch’s John Harrison stands in what Abrams calls “the shower of evil.” Ultimately it was decided that this would not make the final cut and you can hear why straight from the director’s mouth in the clip embedded above. Also discussed is the “revealing,” much talked about scene involving star Alice Eve stripping to her bra and underwear. Yum.

It’s Spock versus Spock in an extended, nerd-tastic Audi ad

I’d hate to post a commercial here outside of the Super Bowl, but this one’s special. The old Spock and the new (namely Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto) star in this nerd-tastic extended advertisement for the Audi S7. Titled “The Challenge,” the spot features Quinto placing a fun bet with Nimoy and along the way you’ll hear “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” and you’ll witness the Vulcan nerve pinch at work. Don’t ask, just watch.

Funny or Die poised to release ‘iSteve’, their own Steve Jobs biopic starring Justin Long

Following in the footsteps of Joshua Michael Stern (Jobs) and Aaron Sorkin (Steve Jobs), viral video maker Funny or Die is poised to release a bio-pic based on the life of the Apple founder. iSteve stars Justin Long as Steve Jobs, an appropriate choice since the Dodgeball actor played the Mac in those Mac/PC commercials way back when. James Urbaniak as Bill Gates, Michaela Watkins as Melinda Gates, and Lost‘s Jorge Garcia as Steve Wozniak round out the cast.

Unlike the majority of FoD videos, iSteve will play out as if it were a theatrical movie; it’s 81 page script was written in three days and taped in five. The “film’s” writer and director Ryan Perez spoke with The New York Times about the project. “In true Internet fashion, it’s not based on very thorough research — essentially a cursory look at the Steve Jobs Wikipedia page. It’s very silly. But it looks at his whole life.” He added, “We might not be the best, but we will be the first.” Stern’s Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival but its nationwide release has been delayed; Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected to come out sometime in 2013.

iSteve premieres at Funny or Die a week from this Monday on April 15. Catch the laugh-out-loud trailer here; “You’ve got to ride the wave of the future” … Justin Long as Steve Jobs: “What if I am the wave of the future?” Ha! When the parody releases in full you will find it here.

Valentine’s Day treat: Learn the truth behind “The Women of LA”

Here’s a brand new video that’s gone viral and rightfully so. It’s laugh-out-loud funny…because it’s true. Friends DJ Lubel & J. Abrams collaborated on this catchy clip that journeys the streets of Los Angeles and makes the ultimate point that the women of LA make it impossible to get with them. If you live there the on-location segments are a real treat but even if you’ve never been you’ll take pleasure in this genius concept that’s littered with fun celebrity cameos.

To all the lovers out there who just can’t get some, Happy Valentine’s Day. Now move back to NYC.

Funny or Die: Zach Galifianakis brings back the ‘Ferns’ for Oscar season

Zach Galifianakis is back with a brand new Between Two Ferns, and this time it’s a special “Oscar Buzz Edition” that’s expanded across two clips. Over the years the Hangover star dresses up like a talk show host and sits down with celebrities and while the conversations mostly make no sense they are absurdly hysterical. And the latest episodes are no exception. Galifianakis and his ferns welcome Jennifer Lawrence, The Impossible Naomi Watts, Christ of Waltz, Anne Halfway, Amys Adam, Jessica Chestain, Sally Field, and Bradley Cooper.

Part 1 is embedded above; part 2 hangs after the break. Continue reading Funny or Die: Zach Galifianakis brings back the ‘Ferns’ for Oscar season

Super Bowl XLVII: the not quite record ratings and the commercials

Power outage and all, Super Bowl XLVII proved to be an exciting game after all. Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens dominated the game early on and the San Fransisco 49ers used the approximately 35 minutes of dark downtime to reenergize and make an unexpected comeback that nearly ended the game in their favor. When the fourth quarter came to a close, however, it was the domineering Ravens and MVP Flacco on top besting the 49ers 34 to 31.

Unlike previous years, last night’s Super Bowl did not break ratings records to become the most watched telecast in history. 108.41 million people tuned into the big game making it the third most watched TV program behind Super Bowl XLVI (111.3 million) and Super Bowl XLV (111 million). (And if you’re curious, the hyped post-Super Bowl episode of Elementary attracted 20.8 million viewers with a 7.8 rating in the 18-49 demo. These numbers are huge for the CBS freshman procedural, but they do not match the 37.6 million viewers that tuned into The Voice‘s post-game telecast last year.) Maybe we’ll see another record-breaking explosion in eyeballs next year?

Moving onto the ‘mericals. This year companies had to fork over a whopping four million dollars for a 30-second spot. I’ve posted a bunch of my personal favorites after the break, including those from Volkswagon, Oreos, Doritos, and Taco Bell and trailers for anticipated movies like Iron Man 3 (see the extended cut!), Star Trek, and Fast and Furious 6. You can rewatch nearly all of them at YouTube’s Ad Blitz center. Which are your favorites? Continue reading Super Bowl XLVII: the not quite record ratings and the commercials

Andy Samberg made a surprise return to Saturday Night Live last weekend, and he brought with him his Lonely Island pals. Watch it here. And like most of TLI’s clips you’ll have it on repeat in no time.

SNL pals Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards. If you need proof that these two are the perfect match for the awards show look no further than this video here. Well, maybe a bit further; after the break you’ll find another clip plus a promotional image that wonderfully encapsulates the kind of wild spirit the 30 Rock and Parks and Rec stars will bring to NBC on January 13, 2013 at 8PM.
