EPIC WIN & FAIL for Kinect owners

Kinect for Xbox 360 released earlier this month.  And when new super cool tech such as the motion sensing Kinect hits the mass market, you expect some astute attempts at hacking and laughable attempts at practicing to hit the interwebs at some point.  This very post presents you with these videos.  Let’s start with the hackers.  Visualization researcher Oliver Kreylos has discovered a way to turn the Kinect into a 3D video capture tool.  He describes the hack: “By combining the color and the depth image captured by the Microsoft Kinect, one can project the color image back out into space and create a “holographic” representation of the persons or objects that were captured.”  Kreylos’ demonstrating is embedded above (left); is your mind blown yet?  A man who goes by AlexP managed to hack the Kinect’s built in accelerometer in an interesting way; check out his batch of demos after the break.

And on to the wacky EPIC FAIL videos you’ve been oh-so patiently waiting for.  Or maybe you haven’t and you already watched my personal favorite Kinect fail in the video embedded above (right).  Salivating for more embarrassing moments like this?  You know where to find ’em.  Ahem, they’re sitting after the break.

Update (11/17): Hacker Chris Rojas has managed to make the Kinect communicate with an iPad.  Click here to see the action.

Judd Apatow rounds up big stars to support American Jewish World Service

American Jewish World Service (AJWS) was established in Boston on May 1, 1985 when Larry Phillips and Larry Simon, together with a group of rabbis, Jewish communal leaders, activists, businesspeople, scholars and others came together to create the first American Jewish organization dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease among people across the globe.

Enter Judd Apatow.  The director of The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up has gathered a bunch of celebrities (many of whom are not Jewish) to celebrate the 25th anniversity of AJWS.  The mock PSA features Ben Stiller, Sarah Silverman, Jerry Seinfeld, John Mayer, Sir Patrick Stewart, Andy Samberg, Ken Jeong, Tracy Morgan, Helen Hunt, Gilbert Gottfried, Brian Williams, Triumph the Insult Comedy Dog, and many others.  Watch them make some funny but all the while support and promote the great cause that is AJWS.

24 Hour Coco Cam is LIVE right now!

On October 20th at 1PM EST/10AM PST Conan’s HQ in Los Angeles started broadcasting LIVE to the Internet!  They shoved a camera in the stairwell of their “comedy bunker” and you don’t want to miss all the crazy shenanigans that’s going down right now.  The camera will remain on for a whole 24 hours.  So far you’ve missed dancing tacos and a dude in a dog suit playing poker and drinking a water bottle through his eye hole.  Watching the live stream is quite mesmerizing in the strangest way possible.  Click here to access the stream.  And if you’re on Twitter, go on and request the production crew/interns that pass by to do something crazy; don’t forget to hashtag your tweet with #LiveCocoCam.  Right now it’s 4:30AM EST on the 21st, and there’s a late-night party going down, so whatcha waitin’ for?

Update: It’s over, folks.  Head over to Team Coco to watch highlights from the 24 hour cam.  Every wonderful shenanigan has been saved for posterity in video and still image formats.  Fun fact: according to early estimates, some 660,000 people tuned into the live stream at some point during the 24 hour period.  As Deadline so emphatically points out, that is the average audience TBS gets in the 11PM hour with George Lopez!  Get ready America, Coco is coming.

‘The Jeff Lewis 5-Minute Comedy Hour’ premieres on YouTube

As promised, the first episode of The Jeff Lewis 5-Minute Comedy Hour is here!  The (web) series premiere “Tag” stars comedian Jeff Lewis (The Guild) and fellow Guild castmates Brett Sheridan and siblings Vince & Tara Caso.  There’s minor instances of NSFW language, so beware.  The video is embedded after the break.  In my opinion the preview episode “Dinner” screened at Comic Con’s Celebrate the Web panel is laugh out loud hilarious on a whole different level for its gracious use of explitives and gross humor; but that’s just me.

The ten-episode first season was written by Lewis and directed by Sean Becker (The Guild, Awkward Pictures).  Guest stars will include Felicia Day (The Guild), Vince Caso (The Guild), Tara Caso (The Guild), Brett Sheridan (The Guild), Jamie Kaler (My Boys), Kyle Bornheimer (Worst Week), Tom Konkle (Safety Geeks SVI), and Kim Evey (Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show).  Watch out for new one-sketch episodes every Tuesday on YouTube.
