So we all know T.I. is “Back.” But is he bringing the goods? With fresh singles “Got Your Back” and “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)” released into the wild, I can answer that question with a resounding yes. “Got Your Back” features a classic T.I. beat behind a catchy chorus provided by the talented and sexy Keri Hilson. “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)”, produced by Smash Factory and DJ Toomp, doubles as a promotional track for T.I.’s new feature film Takers which hits theatres August 20. In it, Tip proves that prison didn’t change him, it made him better. A medley of heavy drums, synth, guitar riffs, and fast lyrics makes the track an instant hit. Preview and download the two singles below. King Uncaged is expected to drop August 17.

[audio: T.I. – Yeah Ya Know (Takers).mp3]Update: The “music video” for “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)” is out now. I put music video in quotes because it’s more like an extended theatrical trailer for T.I.’s new movie Takers, starring Matt Dillion, Paul Walker, Idris Elba, Jay Hernandez,Michael Ealy, Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, and Tip himself. It’s due out in theatres August 20. Find the video after the break.

“Find Your Love” is the second single off Drake’s upcoming debut album Thank Me Later, due out June 15. It’s no surprise that Kanye West produced the track. His fingerprints can be found all over it; the heavy melodic beat takes cues from many of West’s hits off 808’s & Heartbreak. Drake shared some kind words about Ye with MTV News:
“Before I ever got the chance to meet him, Kanye West shaped a lot of what I do, as far as music goes. We always, always, always took the time to listen to Kanye’s music and appreciate it beyond. We searched the samples and find out where his inspiration came from, because he has one of the best ears in music, period. He knows how to recognize great music that’s not his. He knows how to utilize great sounds and great music. So before I met him, I had the utmost respect for Kanye West. I’d even go as far as to say he’s the most influential person, as far as a musician, that I’d ever had in my life.”
This single is Drake’s third collab with West. Previously they worked together on “Forever” (along with Lil Wayne & Eminem) and West directed Drake’s first music video for “Best I Ever Had.” Drake just wrapped up the music video for “Find Your Love” in Jamaica, so be on the look out for that.
But for now, take a listen to the track below and download it here. (It looks like the download link was taken down due to bandwith issues. It should be back soon.) Drake straight up sings in this one, about relationships. He calls it “an extremely vulnerable song” and a “huge risk” because “it almost feels like the song should be performed by a woman. I’m just hoping that men really hear the song and they’re honest with themselves. I know a lot of men feel that way.” After a first listen I’m not hooked yet. But then again, I felt the same way with “Over” and now that’s one of my top played songs.

OK so here’s the story. You know Aziz Ansari, right? He plays Tom Haverford on NBC’s Parks & Recreation and he had a minor role in Funny Peoplewhere he played a rising comedian named RAAAAAAAANDY (that’s right, with 8 A’s). Shortly following the release of the movie Ansari decided to take things a step further and bring RAAAAAAANDY the comedian out of the movie and into real life. You can head over to Funny or Die to watch a three part series that follows Ansari’s alter-ego on the road. They’re pretty damn funny but contain many expletives, so beware.
And that brings us to the present. Ansari–err–RAAAAAAAANDY is teaming up with TV On the Radio’s Dave Sitek to make a mixtape! Ansari shares with the world the first track off the mixtape and it’s appropriately called “AAAAAAAANGRY.” In it he complains that none of the rappers he invited to make a verse for this track got back to him about it. He calls out Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Drake, Dr Dre, and Eminem. To Kanye he says: “So quick updating your blog and send us your verse. ‘Oh, here’s a couch I saw.’ Can you sit on that couch and write your verse real quick? ‘Oh, here’s a picture of a dope tree house in Scandinavia. Oh, I’m designing a new shoe with BugleBoy. Hey, why don’t write some lyrics on a shoe and rap ’em and send us back a fu**in verse?” And to Drake: “Last name ever, first name slowest.” He has the utmost respect for these guys–it’s comedy, remember?
Listen to the track “AAAAAAAANGRY” below and download it for free here. Looking forward to the full mixtape! Peek after the break for a short video blog featuring RAAAAAAAANDY and his trusty sidekick DJ Ol’ Youngin.
[audio: RAAAAAAAANDY – AAAAAAAANGRY.mp3]WARNING: Pretty much everything that comes out of RAAAAAAAANDY’s mouth is paired with an explicative. This track (and even more so the videos at FoD) contain many explicatives and involve dirty subject matter.

After watching the series premiere of HBO’s How To Make It In America, I had to find the track they used for the opening credits. Turns out the song is called “I Need a Dollar” and it’s by soul artist Aloe Blacc. It’s the lead single off his second album called Good Things, due out this April. The song is cool, it’s got a catchy hook, and definitely worth a listen. Preview it below, get the free single, and download the “I Need a Dollar” EP at iTunes (it includes this “I Need a Dollar,” “Take Me Back,” and instrumental versions of each).

“Memories” is the latest single (following “Sexy Bitch”) off David Guetta’s fourth album One Love. iTunes has the album; the single; and a new Memories EP that features the single, an extended version, and a remix. To be honest the music video is EH, but I’m diggin the track.

This rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” is one of my favorite music videos of all time. It comes from the award-winning documentary “Playing For Change: Peace Through Music.” What’s so great about it is that it splices together all different kinds of people from around the world singing the song with their own voices and instruments.
Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world.
It’s just so cool how it all fits together; it sounds like all the musicians sat down in a recording studio together! There is this sensation of peace and unity that overcomes you when you listen to the music and watch the videos. And there’s more where this came from. Playing Through Change the album is available on iTunes; the deluxe version includes videos for “Don’t Worry,” “One Love,” “War/No More Trouble” and others. I urge you to download a copy of this album, listen to the music, and watch the videos. This international collaboration showcases the transformative power of music in a way you have likely never seen before.
Note: I am aware this video was published in 2008. In fact the project itself began in 2004. However, the album was released this year and that is when I (and I’m sure many others) discovered it.
