‘SNL’ sketch round-up: November 16, 2013

Lady Gaga served as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. A rundown of my favorite sketches follows after the break.

Gaga turned in some fine performances during her first stint as host of SNL. From her high energy opening monologue to her final sketch that transported us to a future where nobody remembers the pop icon, Gaga wasn’t afraid to star in deprecating sketches that turned out to be pretty darn funny. In addition to those bits, she also lent herself to other fun sketches like “Waking Up with Kimye” (Jay Pharoah & Nasim Pedrad are always great as Kayne West and Kim Kardashian) as an Apple Genius and “4th Grade Talent Show” where she played an overzealous mother with newbie John Milhiser.

Elsewhere… the “Worst Cover Songs” sketch featured some great impersonations from Noel Wells as Britney Spears, Kenan Thompson as Rick Ross, and Aidy Bryant–who is really shining this season–didn’t even have to say a word to pull off Adele.

Bobby Moynahan and Taran Killem were downright hilarious as Canadian politician Rob Ford and speech critic Jebidiah Atkinson, respectively. Killem, dare I say, killed it.

Next week, Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games hosts with musical guest Haim.
