Check out these trailers for three upcoming comedy films. First up is a red band trailer for 21 Jump Street, a film based on the 1980s crime drama that starred a young Johnny Depp. The theatrical adaptation stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as young undercover cops investigating crimes at a high school. It hits theatres March 16, 2012.
Jump after the break to watch the trailers for Wanderlust and Project X.
Wanderlust stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston and comes from director David Wain (Role Models) and producer Judd Apatow. It’s about a couple who leaves the pressures of the big city and joins a freewheeling commune called Elysium. In theatres February 24, 2012.
Project X might be the most intriguing of this bunch. This low-budget R-rated comedy is directed by Nima Nourizadeh and produced by The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips. It stars a bunch of unknowns and is shot in the style made popular by The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity: shaky cam home video. The movie follows a group of high school seniors tired of being uncool so they throw a massive party that eventually spirals out of control and the cops become involved. Besides the home video style shooting, what also makes this trailer interesting is the way in which it begins. Though it’s billed as a comedy with Phillips behind it, the trailer gives off a horror genre vibe that’s leading many to suspect a such a tonal shift during some point in the movie. Will Project X play like a comedy and all of a sudden turn into a dark teen adventure? Whatever the case, this trailer has me hooked and the Kid Cudi track that runs under it only helps. Out March 2, 2012.
