Henson's Wilkins Coffee (Beware!)

All the way back in 1957, Washington DC offered Jim Henson a deal to create television commercial shorts for Wilkins Coffee.  The local stations could only handle ten seconds worth of ads, so Henson was forced to work with seven seconds for the action, three seconds to show the actual product.  Henson used his muppets characters to produce the commercials.  What makes these ads so funny is the sheer violence it exudes.  There’s the cheerful Wilkins and the angry Watkins.  Wilkins simply does not want to have any Wilkins Coffee, and Watkins won’t take any of it.  The video above contains a number of the inital spots.  Look after the break (click “more…”) to see a second video with more spots.  Watch, laugh, and enjoy.
